Every Christian should have a Father Confessor - one to whom sins are confessed before God and forgiven. This is a most holy gift to the church and ought be cherished and received with thanks. Absolution is a "dead end" in theology. All systematic theology and all hermeneutics must drive to a single statement. A declaration of innocence, a certain concrete state of affairs - that the church is free, blameless - forgiven - sins forever forgotten - for Christ's sake. Jesus' mission is to anounce this new age to each guilty and anxious conscience. A Pastor who withholds this holy sacrament continually to his people is despising Christ's office and laying siege to the gifts of His church - God help him.
